Health and Safety Policy
1. Statement of Intent
Treacle Town Productions Ltd is committed to providing a safe and healthy working
environment for all employees, freelancers, contractors, clients, and visitors. We recognise
our responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated
regulations, and will take all reasonably practicable steps to prevent accidents, injuries, and
ill health during the course of our operations.
We will:
- Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation.
- Identify, assess, and control risks arising from our activities.
- Provide safe equipment, systems of work, and working conditions.
- Ensure that staff and freelancers are properly informed, instructed, and trained in
health and safety matters.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout our organisation.
This policy applies to all areas of our business, including studio work, on-location filming,
editing suites, office-based work, and client venues.
2. Responsibilities
Managing Director / Senior Management
- Overall responsibility for health and safety compliance.
- Ensure adequate resources are provided to implement this policy.
- Review the policy annually or following significant changes.
Health and Safety Lead
- Day-to-day responsibility for health and safety matters.
- Carry out and update risk assessments.
- Ensure all accidents and incidents are reported and investigated.
- Maintain records of training, inspections, and equipment checks.
Employees, Freelancers, and Contractors
- Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others.
- Follow all safety procedures and training provided.
- Report hazards, accidents, or unsafe practices immediately.
- Use equipment and protective gear correctly.
3. Arrangements
Risk Assessments
- Risk assessments will be carried out for all production activities, including filming on
location, equipment setup, travel, and use of props or special effects.
- Control measures will be implemented and reviewed regularly.
Equipment Safety
- All equipment (e.g. cameras, lighting, tripods, sound equipment) will be regularly
inspected and maintained.
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) will be carried out annually on electrical equipment.
- Only trained staff will operate specialist equipment.
Working on Location
- Location risk assessments will be carried out in advance of shoots.
- Emergency procedures (fire exits, first aid, contact details) will be communicated to all
crew.
- Suitable welfare facilities will be provided or arranged where possible.
Fire Safety
- Fire risk assessments will be conducted for offices and studios.
- Fire exits will be kept clear and marked.
- Fire extinguishers will be maintained and staff briefed on their use.
First Aid
- A trained first aider will be appointed, and first aid kits maintained at all work locations.
- All accidents and near misses will be recorded in the accident log.
Training & Communication
- Health and safety inductions will be provided to all staff, freelancers, and contractors.
- Toolbox talks or briefings will be held before shoots.
- Specific training will be provided where required (e.g. manual handling, equipment
use).
Welfare & Wellbeing
- Reasonable working hours and rest breaks will be observed, particularly on location.
- Measures will be taken to prevent stress and promote wellbeing in the workplace.
4. Monitoring & Review
Health and safety performance will be monitored through inspections, incident reporting,
and staff feedback. This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect
changes in legislation, guidance, or company activities.
